Assessments
Telehealth Assessments
At Lighthouse Psychology & Counselling, we provide Telehealth assessments from youth (6yrs+) to adults.
We understand assessments can be a daunting and time-consuming experience for everyone involved, so we strive to keep the process as smooth, easy to understand, and stress-free as possible (which also means we don’t mind if you wear your pj’s for our session!).
We approach all assessments from a place of warmth and compassion and aim to provide reports that are easy to read, have helpful recommendations, and view everyone through a strengths-based lens that recognises we are all different – we all have our own unique strengths and areas of difficulty.
Assessments
Lighthouse Psychology & Counselling currently provides assessments for:
— 01
Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) for youth (from 6yrs) through to adulthood. Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that manifests in varying symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, with unique challenges and strengths such as creative thinking and hyperfocus, reflecting the diverse ways human brains function.
— 02
Adaptive Functioning for Youth and Adults
Adaptive functioning is the collective array of skills critical for independence and everyday living, evaluated across conceptual tasks like reasoning and academic skills, social interactions including communication and relationships, as well as practical tasks such as self-care and work responsibilities. These assessments identify a person’s strengths and weaknesses, informing tailored support strategies to enhance coping and quality of life.
— 03
Personality Strengths and Difficulties
Personality strengths and difficulties (including assessing for the presence of personality disorders) for adults aged 18yrs+. Personality disorders are characterised by rigid, pervasive patterns that deviate from cultural norms and adversely impact functioning. Assessing one’s personality traits is vital to comprehend behaviours and foster personal development, enabling healthier coping mechanisms and social interactions.
Please note, we do not provide reports or assessments for use in legal/court proceedings.
As psychologists, we are regularly reviewing new research and completing training to ensure our information and skills are up to date with current research. As such, we use the most recent Australian developed best practice recommendations to guide our ADHD assessments, and globally recognised research to guide our adaptive functioning and personality strengths and difficulties assessments.
A big part of our work as psychologists is like being a detective – we look for all the different pieces that make up the whole of a person. This means not only ruling in certain things, but also ruling out a bunch more – sometimes a diagnosis can be tricky and may look like or mimic something else. As a result, we try to ‘leave no stone unturned’ and use several different measures to collect information. We understand that during the process it can feel like a lot of questions to answer, but this level of depth is important to give us a proper understanding of what is happening for the whole person across different areas of their life and means we can give you recommendations that are relevant and personalised for your own situation.
